Here is a pearl:  Over the years, I periodically think to myself, if I were a child, would I like to have myself as a mother/grandmother?  Not so fast, think about it, and be honest.  Sobering, isn't it? 

Of course, this holds true for other relationships as well.

Good Things About Winter

  

1. The sun is at such a low angle, that it shines beautifully into my livingroom in the morning.     2...I'm thinking, I'm thinking...     3. Fresh snow- unless you have to drive somewhere.     4. Bundled up grandchildren, with rosy cheeks and noses, and hopefully the hats and scarves that you knitted for them. Hey, let's face it, even if you never see said hats again- you always love to see the grandkids.      5. You've got plenty of indoor time, which you can use to finally straighten up the bookshelves, clean out a cupboard or two, or read!        

If you can think of anything else that is good about winter, by all means let me know.

India Says

India--age 4--wants to do a magic show for Oma. She says, "I need a...I need a...a v o l u n t e e r.  Mama, mama, the word volunteer finally came out of my mouth!"

Bread!

For years, I planned to bake bread, but the memory of the bread that friends baked in the 60's and 70's kept me from it. Do you remember the heavy bricks of homemade "bread" that smelled of wheatgerm,and tasted like cardboard? We were assured that it was very good for us, even though it was barely chewable. And the time and measuring involved! Well friends, my daughter Alexis gave me a book of recipes for rustic breads that are very easy to make, and today I made real bread! It looks like real bread, and it tastes like real bread, and I am very excited!

Hi. My family calls me Oma, to most others I'm Chris. I have two fabulous daughters, and five equally fabulous grandchildren: two boys, and three girls.
